A man was sentenced Wednesday to 276 years in prison for the slayings of two women and the wounding of four children in an Indianapolis apartment in 2006.

Royal Amos was convicted last month of murder, attempted murder and burglary in the deaths of his girlfriend, Keyonia Dunn, and her friend Erika Thornton, 31, and the wounding of the women's children.

Authorities said Amos, then 27, invaded the apartment of the 20-year-old Dunn and shot the women and Dunn's 2-year-old son. Three of Thornton's sons also were injured, with at least one of them being shot and at least one of them being pistol-whipped, police said.

Amos was arrested in Bloomington two days after the shootings, police said.

Amos planned to appeal the convictions.

Howard Harris, 24, was sentenced last year to 260 years in prison in connection with the same shooting.
