Police: 9-Year-Old Had Gun, Threatened To Blow Up School

Boy Suspended, Referred To Counseling

A 9-year-old boy was suspended indefinitely from a school after his mother saw him trying to bring a gun there and his classmates told authorities that he had threatened to blow up the building, officials said.

The boy's mother told police she found one of her husband's guns in the boy's pocket Tuesday as she was about to drop him off at Westside Christian School, located in a Nazarene church in the 8600 block of West 10th Street, police said.

Classmates told the school's principal, Thomas Williams, that the boy told them last week that he intended to run away from home, use the gun to hunt animals, blow up the school and kill a police officer, authorities said.

The boy's father told police that the boy had admitted to possessing a gun and said he didn't have time to put it away before he went to school.

The boy's parents told police that the child had watched television or a movie that depicted gun violence.

Police said no crime was committed. The boy was referred to child welfare workers for counseling, authorities said.
