Police confirmed Wednesday that human remains found in a subdivision retention pond Monday were that of Brad Hensley, 29, who disappeared more than two years ago.

The pond was just four blocks from the Plainfield home where Hensley had lived. He was last seen leaving the home for work on Jan. 12, 2006, 6News' Ray Cortopassi reported.

Authorities had investigated tips that he had been seen in Indianapolis and Tennessee, where his father lived. Instead, it appears Hensley's body was in his Jeep Wrangler at the bottom of an 18-foot retention pond in the Glen Haven subdivision, police said.

Divers pulled the vehicle from the pond Monday, but they were not immediately able to confirm human remains found inside were that of Hensley. They confirmed Hensley's identity through dental records.

Police said they hadn't looked in any of the subdivision's five ponds until now.

"The initial information that we had led us outside the neighborhood. At that point in time, the focus was obviously outside the neighborhood," Plainfield police Lt. Jeff Stephens said.

The pond was searched after new detectives were assigned to the case, police said.

Police said they found no indication of foul play. Detectives said Hensley's relatives and friends told them that he didn't seem to be despondent before his disappearance. He had just gotten a new job in Indianapolis.

Police are trying to determine if he might have had prescription painkillers in his system. Investigators said he might have formed an addiction to Vicodin after having wisdom teeth removed a couple of months before his disappearance.

As the Wrangler was recovered from the pond in Bill Nicoll's back yard Monday, he knew it wasn't a training exercise.

"As police cordoned off the area, I knew that something was going on," Nicoll said. "It was police tape and said, 'Do not cross.'"
