INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis representatives sent 14 binders full of information to the National Football League Tuesday in hopes of hosting the Super Bowl in 2012.The city had to submit its rough draft of the proposal by April 1.NFL officials will look at the initial proposal and examine the package as a whole before sending it back with any questions about the bid.
Mayor Greg Ballard told 6News Tuesday that he hopes Indianapolis' second push to host a Super Bowl will work after the city narrowly lost a 2011 bid.Ballard said the 2012 proposal builds on the last one with some new aspects, such as a Super Bowl Village, which he contends will help Indianapolis embrace its cold weather climate, which is often frowned upon by league officials."Most people know you can pretty much walk through our downtown without going outside," Ballard said. "At the same time, we want to embrace the weather … in case it does turn bad. It's a very unique concept."Indianapolis' final bid is due May 9. NFL team owners will meet May 19 through May 21, during which the city will give a presentation. The final decision is announced on or before May 22.Phoenix and Houston are also vying for the game. A winning bid is expected to bring an estimated $120 million to the winning city's economy.
