Greenwood police Chief Albert Hessman on Thursday named Joseph Nowicki, 53, a suspect in the case of Brookley Louks, who was reported missing June 24.

Greenwood police last week searched Nowicki's property near Greenwood, removing several guns, a computer, a van, videotapes and other items. At the time, police hadn't named any suspects in the case.

Police said Thursday the guns were in Nowicki's possession illegally, because he was convicted of two felonies including second-degree murder in Starke County in 1973.

Details of Nowicki's criminal history were not immediately available.

Nowicki also faces a charge of habitual offense, Hessman said Thursday.

No charges have been filed in connection with the disappearance of Louks (pictured, right).

Louks' mother has said the 19-year-old used to mow Nowicki's lawn and do other chores for him. Nowicki was a friend of Louks' father, police said.

Nowicki was being held Thursday evening in the Johnson County Jail, located in Franklin, with bail set at $150,000.
