Behrman Search Resumes Thursday At Salt Creek

Source: Three Suspects Jailed On Unrelated Charges

Investigators will search Monroe County's Salt Creek again Thursday, in hopes of gleaning clues in the 2000 disappearance of an Indiana University student, authorities said.

Some evidence was recovered Wednesday, but authorities would not say what it was, RTV6 Reporter Ben Morriston said.

Sonar was used to scour the bottom of the creek.

The resumption of the search comes as a source close to the investigation says investigators have three suspects -- all jailed on unrelated charges -- relating to the disappearance of Jill Behrman (pictured, left).

Investigators arrived at the creek, southeast of Bloomington, around 8 a.m. Wednesday. The FBI, the Monroe County Sheriff's Department and officials with the Department of Natural Resources are involved.

A search of the creek in April was hampered by high water, investigators said.

Authorities said last year that they believe Behrman, 19 when she disappeared on May 31, 2000, was accidentally struck by a vehicle while she was on a bicycle ride.

A source said Tuesday investigators believe that three people were in a truck that struck Behrman, and that all three are in custody on unrelated charges. One of them, the source said, is Uriah Clouse, whom authorities identified earlier this year as a suspect in the Behrman case.

No suspect other than Clouse has been publicly named, and no one has been charged in Behrman's disappearance.

The source said statements from at least one of the suspects indicate that Behrman, after being struck by the vehicle, was wrapped in plastic and then dumped in water.

People with information about Behrman's disappearance can call the FBI's Bloomington office at (812) 332-9275.
