IPL Suspends Tree-Cutting Efforts For North-Side Neighborhood
Power Company Listening To Complaints

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Power and Light has temporarily halted its tree easement program in a north-side neighborhood -- a program that resulted in complaints from many residents on the city's north and east sides.
The program is designed to cut down or trim trees that are too close to power lines. Some residents, though, said the trees are the reason they moved to the area.
IPL on Tuesday night met with residents of a neighborhood located near the intersection of 90th Street and Westfield Boulevard.
"No. 1, we're trying to maintain safety for the public," IPL spokesman Steven Hase said. "And secondly, the system is reliable so we can continue to provide good service."
Said resident Brad Kohlmyer, "It's such a beautiful area, and to think they're going to come through as they described and clear cut all those trees is beyond me."
Although the program in that neighborhood is halted, IPL eventually will resume cutting down the trees unless it finds another solution.
