Police: Colts' Harrison Questioned About Philly Shooting

Report: Bullet Grazed Someone Following Fistfight Involving NFL Player

Philadelphia police said Friday they've questioned Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison about a shooting near a North Philadelphia bar he co-owns.

Police made that acknowledgment after Anthony Gargano, a host for Philadelphia AM radio station WIP, told ESPN a source told him a bullet grazed someone in the hand at about 5 p.m. Tuesday not far from the Playmakers bar following a fistfight between Harrison and a patron.

Gargano reported that the person who was grazed by the bullet hasn't identified anyone as the shooter. A girl also was slightly hurt by car glass that may have been hit by a bullet, Gargano reported, citing the source, whom he didn't identify.

Philadelphia police late Friday afternoon confirmed they questioned Harrison about the incident but stressed that no one has been charged and no suspects have been named.

"We're interviewing anyone we think may have been in the area, and there were interviews done, and we're looking to do more interviews," Philadelphia police Lt. Frank Venore said at a news conference.

Gargano said his source told him the shooting stemmed from an argument and a fistfight between Harrison and a patron of the bar. When the patron left, Harrison chased him to a car that the patron entered, and "gunfire was then exchanged," Gargano reported, citing his source.

Gargano reported that the "car was completely shot up."

Police investigating the shooting confiscated a gun -- allegedly registered to Harrison -- that they found Wednesday at a car wash that Harrison owns, located not far from the bar, Gargano reported.

Harrison -- a Philadelphia native -- and his attorney told investigators that Harrison acknowledges the fight and that he heard gunfire, but he denies shooting anyone, Gargano reported.

Harrison's agent, Tom Condon, denied the player was involved in the shooting.

"I've spoken with Marvin and I've spoken with his attorney, and they say the reports are erroneous," Condon told ESPN. "Marvin was not involved in any shooting, and he is not the subject of this investigation."

Gargano told 6Sports Director Dave Furst Friday evening that his source told him Harrison and the patron have been in a monthlong dispute.

"My source was saying that ... the (patron) was like 305 pounds," Gargano said. "They tussled (Tuesday), and Marvin Harrison got the best of him in the altercation.

"One of the witnesses said, 'You know Marvin. He has hands like a ninja.'"

Philadelphia police say they've questioned Harrison about a shooting outside this bar, which he co-owns.

Colts head coach Tony Dungy, when asked about the report at a news conference relating to the Colts' rookie minicamp Friday, said he didn't know anything about the investigation but acknowledged his phone had been ringing because of people wanting to talk to him or ask him about it.

In an e-mailed statement, Colts President Bill Polian said the following Friday afternoon: "We have no credible information at this time, and we will not comment until we do."

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league is aware of the report and is looking into it.

According to ESPN, Harrison ranks fourth in career NFL receptions (1,042) and fifth in career receiving yards (13,944) and career receiving touchdowns.

Harrison has been with the Colts since the team drafted him from Syracuse in 1996. He was a member of the team that won Super Bowl XLI in 2007.
