Man Found Fatally Shot After Neighbors Report Gunfire

Police Follow Blood Trail To Victim

A man was fatally shot Thursday night on Indianapolis' northeast side.

Indianapolis Metro police said the shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. near 38th and Dearborn streets.

Neighbors told police they heard as many as three shots fired. Officers followed a blood trail to find the victim, Michael Smith, 40, of Evansville. Police said Smith had been wounded by several shots.

Smith was rushed to Wishard Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

Police said they don't know who shot Smith. They asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
