Teacher Charged With Sexual Misconduct With Minor

Student, 15, Alleges Two Had Sex At Educator's House

A female high school teacher who was arrested this week on suspicion of having sex with a 15-year-old male student was charged Thursday with four felony counts of sexual misconduct.

Sheila Vazquez, 36, was suspended with pay from The Renaissance School in Warren Township after one of her eighth-grade students told police that he had sex with her during a "lunch" outing at her home during school hours.

The student alleged the incident happened on May 1 following a few months of conversation that included sexual innuendo and a separate incident in which the two engaged in kissing and fondling in an otherwise vacated classroom, according to a probable cause affidavit.

According to a police report, the student indicated that the conversations began innocently in February when he told her that he was bored in school.

The student told police that Vazquez responded that she had something that would keep him busy.

In what the student believed was mid-April, the two had a sexual discussion when they were alone in a classroom, and they eventually began kissing and fondling there, he told police.

The student told police that when they talked about "taking it 'further'" near the end of April, he suggested that she could take him to lunch one day, according to the affidavit. On May 1, he said, the two left the school at about 11 a.m. with a female student "who basically acted as a 'decoy,' " according to the affidavit.

He told police that when the three arrived at Vazquez's house, the female student remained downstairs while he and Vazquez went upstairs and had sex, according to the affidavit. He told police the three eventually returned to school without eating lunch, the affidavit said.

Vazquez was arrested Tuesday.
