INDIANAPOLIS -- Marion County's final 2007 property tax rates will decrease a little more than 4 percent, but that doesn't mean finals bills will do the same.Auditor Billie Breaux told 6News' Norman Cox Tuesday that the rate calculation affects catch-up bills due to be mailed in several weeks. Those bills will reconcile the difference between what homeowners paid last year and what they actually owed.
Aides to Marion County Treasurer Mike Rodman said bills can't be calculated until the rates are added to the new assessments. Most of those went down, but many went up."I guess the thing that I would like them (taxpayers) to understand is that this is the reconciliation bill," Breaux said. "This is just the difference from what they've already paid."Rates will change again for 2008 bills, which won't go out until late summer or early fall.
