ANDERSON, Ind. -- A man who called 911 to report a body in an Anderson park was convicted Tuesday of murdering the 14-year-old girl.It took a Madison County jury less than 30 minutes to find Jesse Lee Pitts guilty in the death of Amanda Brinker. She was found beaten to death with a jack handle at Edgewater Park in September 2007.
Investigators became suspicious of the call because the girl's body had been dragged off a walking trail and was not in plain sight.Police said blood was spattered on clothing in Pitts' possession. An autopsy showed that Brinker died of blunt force trauma to the head.Police said Pitts told them he struck Brinker with a car jack handle. The Associated Press left a message with Pitts' attorney, Jason Childers, seeking comment.Pitts faces 45 years to 60 years in prison when he is sentenced June 9.
