Two men were arrested early Wednesday morning after admitting that they were trying to steal gas from cars parked in a Fishers subdivision, police said.

A resident of The Bristols subdivision, near 126th Street and Brooks School Road, called police at about 1:30 a.m. to report seeing two men possibly breaking into vehicles.

Officers found the men standing next to a car parked in a driveway on Raiders Boulevard. The men told police that they were looking for gas to fill their vehicle, officers said.

Officers said they found a gas can in the car the men were in and that one of them was carrying a screwdriver and pocketknife.

"This alert resident interrupted a crime in progress and stopped others from being victims," said Fishers police Sgt. Gerry Hepp.

Police arrested Glenn Newhouse, 34, and George Staten, 23, both of Indianapolis. The men were held Wednesday in the Hamilton County Jail.
