TRAFALGAR, Ind. -- Their homes are, for the most part, fine but getting to them is the hard part.Numerous residents in the Lamb Lake community in Johnson County were left stranded by Saturday's flood until Thursday, 6News' Rick Hightower reported.About 300 homes surround the lake, near Trafalgar. Many of them on the lower part of the lake were pretty much isolated for several days because the main road leading to the isolated properties was washed out.
Residents had to improvise to get around."We took our boat across the lake, tied it up on the other side with neighbors, then we have to go get the boat to cross the lake to get to our house," said resident Pam Mango. There was quite a bit of damage to watercraft and docks, but very little damage to houses.Crews constructed a temporary road, but so far they have only been able to walk in and out on it. The plan is to put down some gravel so cars can again be used. Those who didn't need to go anywhere didn't mind the inconveniences, even with no water, electricity or gas for days, but others had to get out to get to work."I've got a pontoon and a vehicle on the other side of the lake," said Charles Harter. "I just get in the pontoon, go ever there and go to work."In addition to the road, a ruptured gas line to the communities was repaired.Red Cross workers in nearby Franklin heard about crews building a temporary road and stopped brought food.
