Ex-Swim Coach To Plead Guilty To 16 Child Porn Charges

Brian Hindson Reaches Plea Deal

A former Kokomo High School swim coach intends to plead guilty to 16 child pornography charges, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Thursday.

Brian D. Hindson, 40, of Westfield, was originally charged with eight child pornography-related counts. The U.S. Attorney's Office said that an additional eight charges were filed Thursday, bringing the total to 16.

Prosecutors said Hindson produced child porn involving 11 girls between 1998 and 2007. The original charges against Hindson involved three girls.

In the original cases, Hindson was accused of secretly videotaping girls as they undressed in a locker room of Kokomo Memorial Gym between 2005 and 2007.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Morrison said the new charges were "largely connected to the same kind of thing he's been charged with before."

"People felt very taken advantage of, especially the people that were very close to him," said a student at Westfield High School, where Hindson also coached the Central Indiana Aquatics swim club. "There is this one girl that I knew, and he was a very big role model for her. This was … devastating."

An FBI investigation began in March 2006, when two people in North Carolina told the agency they found two videos -- showing what appeared to be a high school female in a locker room changing out of a bathing suit -- on a computer that Hindson had sold them on eBay, according to a probable cause affidavit.

"Most of these largely have been in the locker rooms, a position so that you can film them unaware," Morrison said.

Under the plea deal, Hindson would be sentenced to between 25 and 35 years in prison and would be supervised for the rest of his life. A judge will decide whether to accept the deal.

Hindson was held Thursday in the Marion County Jail.
