Police said Jacqueline Marks, 37, died of gunshot wounds after she was shot at the McClure Gas Station at the intersection of Georgetown Road and 71st Street around 5:30 a.m., RTV6's Camille Amiri reported.

Police said Marks was a manager at the gas station and was doing inventory when she was shot.

Marks' husband, Nelson Marks, turned himself into police Sunday for questioning, Amiri reported.

"People in the area heard shots fired and saw a black male running from the area," Marion County Sheriffs Department Detective Steven Gibbs said.

During his get-a-way, police believe the suspect knocked over a trash can at a nearby fast-food restaurant, Amiri reported.

The victim's regular customers were shocked to hear about the shooting when they arrived at the gas station.

"She's just friendly and hard working. She was always doing the books, but she'd always stop and come and help," customer Al Luckett said. "She's going to be missed, she's really going to be missed. I just feel sorry for her kids."

Police said the victim's children are staying with a family member, Amiri reported.
