Officials Suspend Behrman Search

High Water Hinders Search

POSTED: 2:56 p.m. EST September 23, 2002

Friday's severe weather did more than cause damage in central Indiana -- it's temporarily suspended the search for missing Indiana University student Jill Behrman.

Behrman (pictured, left) disappeared at age 19 while riding her bike ride on May 31, 2000. Investigators believe Behrman's body was dumped in Salt Creek after she was hit by a car while biking along a nearby road.

Officials erected a dam and have been combing Salt Creek for Behrman's body.

FBI agents said the recent rain has muddied the search site, making it impossible for agents to find Behrman's remains.

Agents have said they've found "critical" evidence in the creek, and were scheduled to speak at a Monday afternoon press conference about the search.
