More Water Damage Discovered Inside Lucas Oil Stadium

INDIANAPOLIS -- Days after heavy thunderstorms caused flooding inside Lucas Oil Stadium, crews have found more water damage.

On Thursday, workers discovered that moisture had affected some lengths of carpet in a portion of two corridors outside the southwest suite area, the Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority said in a press release.

Crews have already repaired three fractured drainpipes that allowed water to leak into the stadium's lower levels, and they cleaned up water damage in the underground loading dock area, officials said.

"All our crews are making good progress," said ISCBA Executive Director John Klipsch. “We are continuing to assess the full extent of those areas affected and hope to have much more detailed report by early next week.”

While cleanup continued, workers began installing the turf on the playing field Wednesday. There was no water damage to the field, suites or regular seating area.

Stadium officials said the August opening of the stadium is not expected to be delayed.

The $700 million stadium will host the Super Bowl in 2012.
