INDIANAPOLIS -- A 16-year-old has been charged in the shooting death of a 72-year-old man who police said tried to intervene in the robbery of a friend.Dominique Staten shot and killed Mario Gonzalez-Tello outside a west side restaurant on June 2, police said.Police said Gonzalez-Tello was leaving Mr. Gyros, near 38th Street and Moller Road, when a man attacked his 54-year-old female friend and tried to rob her at gunpoint.
When he tried to come to her aid, he was shot several times. He pronounced dead a short time later.Staten has been charged with murder, robbery and carrying a gun without a license. He was already in the Marion County Jail on other charges. The new charges were filed Thursday.
