WESTFIELD, Ind. -- Drivers caught speeding in Westfield can expect to see more tickets and fewer warnings, police said.Officers have been stepping up speeding patrols in neighborhoods after neighbors complained, officials told 6News' Renee Jameson. The crackdown officially started earlier this year. Now, police said they've doubled the number of tickets they've handed out during the last year.
And those tickets aren't cheap. Officials at the Hamilton County clerk's office said fines for speeding start around $159 and go up from there."It's just making things safer by slowing things down and increasing people's odds of being able to stop if something unexpected happens," said Westfield Police Chief Kevin Jowitt.Westfield police are also setting up a neighborhood speed program, to get communities involved, Jowitt said. That program starts later this week.
