INDIANAPOLIS -- A man was found bound and fatally shot Thursday morning in an alley on Indianapolis' north side.Indianapolis Metro police were called to the intersection of 22nd and Bellefontaine streets, near College Avenue and the Monon Trail, at about 5 a.m. after neighbors reported hearing gunshots. The body of Vyon Goodman, 27, of Indianapolis was found in an alley, police. He was pronounced dead.
Goodman had been bound and it appeared that he had been running in an effort to escape his killer, officers said.Witnesses reported seeing a black SUV leaving the area around the time of the shooting. A vehicle that matched the description was found a short time later on North Highland Avenue, though police have not confirmed it was involved. As investigators combed the neighborhood in search of clues and witnesses, residents told 6News' Julie Pursley that they have lost a sense of security they once had."There's too much violence going on in this town," said Anna Riggins. "I pray and stay in the house."A mother who didn't want to be identified said she's afraid to let her children play outside."I just told them before I walked out here. 'You are not allowed to come out of the house today,'" the woman said. "It's just too scary."Deputy Mayor of Neighborhoods Olgen Williams came to the scene to talk to people about their fears and to urge them to share information."These bad people have guns. People know they have guns. They show them off," Williams said. "They talk about the deeds before they do them most of the time."Police asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
