INDIANAPOLIS -- Metro police have released a sketch of a man wanted in the shooting death of the daughter of a prominent Indianapolis clergyman known for his stand against violent crime.Chenelle Walker, 24, daughter of the Rev. Malachi Walker, was shot by at least one of two intruders in the 2400 block of Morning Star Drive early Saturday, 6News' Renee Jameson reported.Detectives described her attacker as a black man with a dark complexion, about 6 feet tall with a thin build.
Walker leaves behind her husband and three children."She was just one of those daughters that anyone would want to have," Walker said. "Her husband had just left. She was just laying there in her own home and someone wanted to come in and take her life. It's just senseless."Walker, who said he is both numb and outraged, said he is relying on God to get him through. He has been one of the most outspoken opponents of violent crime in the city, dedicating time and energy to the effort by running an outreach program designed to empower young males."I'm out here every day trying to fight some of this crime and help reduce the crime and put peace in the streets," Walker said. "Then, it strikes your own home. It kind of softens you, makes you wonder."Police said they found a small amount of marijuana and guns inside the victim's home.Investigators did not immediately release information about motive, but said they found the bedroom had been ransacked."When you're dealing with a tragedy and the Walker family and what they've done for the community, let's step up," said Indianapolis Metro police Lt. Jeff Duhamell.Walker's family said she was a loving mother and wife -- someone who loved life."She wouldn't hurt a flea. She's the sweetest thing. I'm proud of her," Walker said.Friends, family and city leaders were at a prayer vigil Saturday night to memorialize the victim and seek an end to the string of homicides that has gripped the city -- 14 within the past 20 days."A man dedicated his life to making sure that all of us live peacefully has to go through this ... it isn't right," said Mayor Greg Ballard as he choked back tears.Police did not have a good description of the two males they are looking for. Police asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
