INDIANAPOLIS -- Scammers have been using the name of an injured metro police officer to go door to door collecting money, police said.Police received several calls over the weekend from residents reporting they'd been asked to give money to a fund for IMPD Officer Jason Fishburn.Fishburn was shot in the head July 10 while chasing a man now charged in three slayings.Police said they do not go door to door to solicit money and residents who get a solicitation should call police."There are individuals out there that will pray on the sympathies and goodwill of individuals out there that are really trying to do good and to help people in need and that is a crime," said IMPD Sgt. Matthew Mount. There is a fundraising effort under way to help the Fishburn family, 6News' Jack Rinehart reported. The Fraternal Order of Police is selling a T-shirt with Fishburn's unit number and the phrase, "Prayers for Fish."FOP officials said they have sold nearly 3,000 shirts in two days. They hope to open sales to the public this weekend.Fishburn is recovering at Wishard Hospital. His family tells 6News they hope to move him to a rehabilitation facility for intensive therapy in another week.
