Twins Arrested In Gun Store Burglary Have Long Records

Brothers Arrested On Charges Of Auto Theft, Burglary, Armed Robbery

Twin 14-year-old brothers arrested in connection with a bold break-in at a west-side gun store each have extensive criminal histories, police said.

The brothers -- who turned 14 this week -- were wearing home detention monitors when they were arrested Friday night in connection with the early-morning burglary at Don's Guns.

Police said so far this year the twins have racked up 12 arrests for auto theft, an arrest for burglary and one for armed robbery, 6News' Jack Rinehart reported.

Police said the twins are believed to be part of a juvenile gang that has targeted Indianapolis-area car dealerships. The twins have been identified as suspects in break-ins at seven car dealerships and in the thefts of at least 25 vehicles, police said.

Investigators told Rinehart they were concerned that the boys hadn't been kept off the streets.

"To be arrested that many times for the same offense … and to actually wander out of home detention and go commit another crime, it's very alarming," said IMPD Capt. Craig Converse.

Shortly before the Don's Guns burglary, police said the twins were involved in an armed robbery on the city's west side.

The twins will be in court Friday afternoon for their initial hearing in the gun store burglary. A judge Monday ordered them held at the juvenile center until then.
