Puppy Found Wandering With Gaping Wound

Animal Control: Foul Play Possible

A puppy was recovering Thursday after it was found wandering with a gaping wound that nearly sliced the dog in half, animal control officers said.

The 7-month-old mix breed dog required dozens of stitches after it was picked up Tuesday night near Edinburgh, officials said.

Johnson County Animal Control Warden Dr. Emily Williamson, who is also a veterinarian, helped stitch the dog back together. She said it is possible the puppy was intentionally sliced.

"It's not provable, but it's a good possibility someone may have cut this dog," Williamson said.

Williamson said the puppy -- nicknamed Benjamin -- should fully recover from the injury. He'll be put up for adoption when his wounds heal.
