COLUMBUS, Ind. -- A woman who police say was fatally shot by a sniper Monday night in Virginia was an Indiana native, RTV6's Kristi Tedesco reported Tuesday.
Linda Franklin, 47, of Arlington, Va., was born in Columbus and spent her early years there, according to her uncle Glen Easterday.
Easterday, who lives in Columbus, said he couldn't remember exactly how long Franklin and her parents lived there (Easterday and Franklin are pictured at left). The family eventually moved to Florida, Easterday said.Franklin, an FBI analyst with the National Infrastructure Protection Center, was shot in the head in a Home Depot parking lot in Falls Church, Va. She and her husband were loading packages into a car trunk, police said.Police said ballistics evidence linked Monday's shooting to 10 other shootings carried out by a sniper in the Washington, D.C., area this month.Easterday said Franklin often had to report to the Pentagon and had just left the building on Sept. 11, 2001, when an airplane hit it during that day's terrorist attacks."She had to report there every morning before she went on to the FBI headquarters, but that's all I know about it," Easterday said.
Easterday (pictured, left) said he was notified of Franklin's death about four hours after Monday's shooting."She was a very caring person, and did whatever she could to help her son ... and her daughter," Easterday said during an interview at his home Tuesday.Franklin's son and daughter are grown, Easterday said. Franklin was soon to be a grandmother, as her daughter is expecting a child early next year, Easterday said.Easterday's girlfriend of 17 years, Sue Warren, said Franklin's family had been worried about the recent sniper attacks."Her mother did say, 'Linda, you'd better watch out for what's going on around you.' And Linda, not wanting her mother to worry, (said) 'Mom, don't worry,' " Warren said.Easterday and Warren said they are planning to attend Franklin's funeral in the Washington area.
