Formal charges were filed Tuesday against a man who police said fired a shot that struck a woman's SUV during a road rage confrontation last week.

Gregory Schmoll, 55, of Indianapolis, was charged with intimidation and pointing a firearm.

The 26-year-old woman told 6News that Schmoll shot at her vehicle on Interstate 69 in Marion County on Aug. 12.

Police said Schmoll claimed that he fired at the woman's vehicle because she was trying to force him off the road.

Schmoll could also be charged in Marion County, where the woman claimed the shot was fired.

The woman said she followed Schmoll northward on I-69 into Hamilton County until he stopped his car, pointed a handgun and threatened to kill her.

Police said Schmoll called 911 shortly after the incident and admitted firing at her fender.
