Officials with Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign quickly shot down a report Wednesday that a "major event" is planned for Indianapolis on Saturday.

A Nashville Post report indicated that Obama's camp was preparing to make a public appearance with his yet to be announced vice presidential running mate in Indianapolis, heightening speculation that Sen. Evan Bayh could be Obama's choice.

The Nashville Post report cited sources at the Democratic National Convention who said that those involved with Obama's campaign are headed to Indiana to stage for the event.

A CBS News report backed up the Post's claim.

Bayh, who has been a senator since 1999, is widely considered to be on a short list of candidates Obama is considering.

That list also includes Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, Sen. Joe Biden and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.
