Man Arrested Less Than 12 Hours After Getting Out Of Jail

SULLIVAN, Ind. -- Police say an Indiana man illustrates exactly what not to do when released from jail.A man who was released from jail after serving an auto theft sentence was arrested again on the same charge less than 12 hours later.Indiana State Police said Darren E. Roberts, 22, of Sullivan, had been released from the Sullivan County Jail Tuesday afternoon after completing his sentence.
Roberts was arrested early Wednesday morning in Putnam County after he stole beer from a Cloverdale BP gas station and led troopers on a five-mile chase, police said.The pursuit began at mile marker 47 on eastbound Interstate 70 just before 3 a.m.Troopers said Roberts sped up to 105 mph in a stolen Ford Mustang before he exited on Indiana 42 and spun out on Cook Road, ending the chase.Police said Roberts had stolen the Mustang in Linton just hours after his release.Roberts was charged with theft, possession of stolen property, resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle, operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash.He was held without bond Wednesday in the Putnam County Jail.
