Man Carried Live Pipe Bomb In Car, Police Say

Bomb Squad Detonates Device

POSTED: 7:17 am EDT August 21, 2008

Fishers police on Wednesday arrested a man they said was carrying a live pipe bomb in the back of his vehicle.

Matthew Clark, 21, was pulled over on suspicion of speeding along Olio Road at about 7:20 p.m.

Clark gave police permission to search his vehicle, but acted suspiciously and told officers that he had a pipe bomb in the back.

The Indiana State Police bomb squad was called in. They found and detonated the bomb, police said.

Clark was arrested on a charge of possession of a destructive device. He was behind held in the Hamilton County Jail late Wednesday.
