A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Indianapolis' southeast side early Friday morning.

The crash happened at about 6:10 a.m. in the ramp from Interstate 74 to Interstate 465, Indiana State Police said.

Witnesses told police that a man in a pickup truck traveled off the left side of the road, overcorrected and then went across both lanes of the road and down an embankment on the east side.

Police said the man had suffered a severe laceration to his neck and was bleeding profusely. A witness, also a nurse, had stopped after the crash and was able to slow the bleeding until medics arrived.

The man was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital, where he died. The victim was identified Friday afternoon as Richard M. Snyder, 56, of Fountaintown.

The wreck slowed traffic in the area for about an hour.
