A man was in serious condition Saturday after he was pulled from a retention pond at a west-side apartment complex.

A neighbor called 911 just after 10:30 p.m. Friday when she said she saw a man walk into a retention pond at the Westlake Arms Apartments at 511 Westbury E. Drive, said Indianapolis Fire Department spokeswoman Capt. Rita Reith.

Wayne Township fire crews were first to arrive but found nothing. The IFD dive team arrived shortly after and located the man in the water, Reith said.

The man -- who was not identified -- was taken to Wishard Hospital in serious condition. Reith said the man was a resident at the apartment complex.
