INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis police officer Jason Fishburn was given a standing ovation Thursday night at Conseco Fieldhouse, the same day that he walked out of rehabilitation hospital on his own.Fishburn had been hospitalized -- first at Wishard Hospital and then at The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana -- since he was shot in the head while chasing a robbery and murder suspect on the city's east side on July 10.Thursday night, Fishburn was honored as a public safety hero at the Indiana Fever game, 6News' Renee Jameson reported.Fishburn, who could be seen in suite with his wife, didn't speak, but his father addressed the crowd."Jason did exactly as Dorothy did. He clicked his shoes and said, 'There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home. And he's back," Dennis Fishburn said.Earlier in the day, Fishburn left the rehabilitation center where he had been recovering, walking out of the building under his own power, said Sgt. Matthew Mount.Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, Public Safety Director Scott Newman and IMPD Chief Michael Spears, along with Fishburn's wife and family member ands and coworkers were on hand at the hospital."He walked out on his own two feet to the door. He pushed everybody away and said, 'I want to get out on my own,'" Ballard said. After Fishburn left the building, his supervisor called over the police radio and advised that one of his officers was still unaccounted for. Fishburn then radioed back, saying he was making back in service and going home.Fishburn will continue to receive therapy at an out-patient facility that specializes in brain trauma.A portion of ticket sales from Thursday's game went to benefit the Fishburn family.
