BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A man was killed early Friday morning when his live-in girlfriend ran over him, resulting in his death, police said.Monroe County sheriff's deputies said the victim, Jerimy Whaley, 23; and Misty Williams, 23, had both been drinking.Officers were called to the 200 block of North Johnson Avenue at about 3 a.m., where they found Whaley lying in the road with a vehicle next to him.
Detective Shawn Karr said an investigation revealed that Williams had struck Whaley while out looking for him.Police said the couple had been out drinking with a friend and had returned home. Williams told police that Whaley didn't want to go to sleep and left the home to take a walk.Williams told police that she was worried about Whaley's safety, got into her car and drove through the neighborhood looking for him.Police said Williams admitted that she was drunk at the time and that she hit something that was in the road.Williams told investigators that she thought Whaley had passed out in the road, Karr said."She did not know it was Mr. Whaley until after the accident," Karr said in a statement. "Ms. Williams stated that Mr. Whaley was 'passed out' in the roadway."Williams was held Friday in the Monroe County Jail on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated in an accident resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.Police said Williams is cooperating in their investigation and that they are awaiting toxicology results.
