GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Two police officers who were wounded in the line of duty were honored Monday and presented with financial help from the parents of a slain officer.Former Indianapolis Officer Tim Conley, who was wounded in 2004 in the same gun battle that claimed the life of Officer Jake Laird, and Indianapolis Officer Jason Fishburn, who was shot in the head while trying to arrest a slaying suspect in July, were praised during a luncheon at the Greenwood Outback restaurant to raise money for Fishburn.Conley struggles to support his family and had to fight a state ruling for his pension payout as he recovered, 6News' Renee Jameson reported."Everybody in uniform knows what you did," Conley said, referring to Fishburn. "Everybody knows the sacrifices you made, and you are loved by everybody in the place."Mike Laird, Jake Laird's father, said checks from the Jake Laird Memorial Fund are just a small token of appreciation for the officers' efforts."It's a way for us to have our son … give back to his brothers," Mike Laird said."They're out there every day, and they don't know if they're going to come home," said Debbie Laird, Jake's mother. "This is a great way to have the public remember that."Jason Fishburn worked at the Greenwood Outback for three years while he was in high school."He started out busing tables and went back and did food prep, so this is a real fond memory for him," said Dennis Fishburn, Jason's father. "We're grateful to the people of Outback for the support."
