INDIANAPOLIS -- Thousands of people gathered downtown Wednesday to watch Hoosier history in the making with the deflation of the RCA Dome. Some took part in viewing parties, even though the event wasn't the most dramatic thing visually, 6News' Julie Pursley reported. One of those parties was at the Omni Hotel, where Hoosiers got to see the dome slowly deflate from a good vantage point.
People gathered on building rooftops, parking garages and high-rise balconies to watch a piece of history. The Omni hosted its event in the presidential suite, hosting clients and friends who were watching from a balcony or through windows. It took about 40 minutes for the roof to cave in, an occurrence some equated to watching a sunset."It's mixed emotions. I am sad to see it go, especially since we haven't won a game over there (Lucas Oil Stadium) yet," said Vince Early. "It's progress. We're moving on to something else. I'm excited about the fact that we're going to be able to get more convention business."Fans watched and reflected on moments they remembered from inside the dome and its transition from the Hoosier Dome to the RCA Dome when the company bought the naming rights in the 1990s.
