An Indianapolis police officer shot in the line of duty in July underwent another surgery on Friday to replace a portion of his skull.

Officer Jason Fishburn was readmitted to Wishard Hospital on Friday for a procedure to place a prosthetic piece into his skull, said Sgt. Matthew Mount.

A portion of Fishburn's skull cap had to be removed after he was shot in the head while chasing a suspect on the city's east side on July 10.

Fishburn's surgeon said that Friday's surgery went well and that he could be released to go home on Saturday, Mount said.

Fishburn was released from a rehabilitation hospital on Sept. 11 after spending several weeks there and at Wishard Hospital. He continues to undergo therapy for speech and movement on a weekly basis.
