INDIANAPOLIS -- Police think a pregnant woman who was found dead in a burned house on Indianapolis' east side early Friday morning was the victim of a homicide. The fire began at about 4:15 a.m. at a home in the 3700 block of East New York Street.Firefighters were able to douse the flames relatively quickly at a house they originally thought was vacant.
Soon after the fire was put out, crews found the body after neighbors told them someone might be inside. The body was found in the back part of the home in an area that might originally have been a garage.Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the fire and caused the woman's death. A K-9 indicated that accelerants might have been used.Detectives are also trying to determine the woman's identity. She was described as white, younger than 30, between 4 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 1 inch tall.Investigators said she the woman weighed about 100 pounds, had possibly reddish-brown hair and was about six months pregnant.Police asked anyone with information to call 317-327-3375.
