DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. -- Authorities in Delaware County said they have new leads in the slaying of a man that's gone unsolved for nearly seven months.Garth Rector, 48, who worked at Ball State University, was attacked and shot several times inside his Delaware County home on March 21, 6News' Jennifer Carmack reported."He was taken by surprise. Someone was laying in wait," said Delaware County Sheriff's Department Lt. Robert Pyle. "It was someone who obviously couldn't face him, and that's a coward."
Recently, Pyle said that investigators had identified three people of interest in the case and had uncovered new information surrounding Rector's slaying. For Angie Rector, the past year has been a tumultuous one for her and her daughter, April, as they wait for answers, she said."You just can't explain why someone would do something like that and why," she told Carmack. "He was a great guy. I mean, nobody's perfect, but he was a great guy."In an effort to draw more attention to the case and to raise money for a reward, the family organized a benefit concert called Garthfest this Sunday. Pyle said investigators would be on hand to talk with anyone who might have information about the case."I want someone to come forward and admit they did it or somebody that knows," Angie Rector said.Garthfest will take place Sunday at 1 p.m. at Springwater Park near Muncie.
