INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis attorney was arrested Wednesday for carrying a handgun into court without a license, police said.Loren J. Comstock, 47, told police he brought an unloaded handgun to court for his client, who was accused of dealing cocaine, to use in a demonstration, said Marion County Sheriff's Department spokesman Julio Fernandez.Comstock told police that the gun belonged to his ex-wife and that he did not have a permit to carry it.
"Anytime you bring a gun into court it's not a good thing, it's not a good idea," he said. "Even if it was unloaded, you really don’t know if a gun is unloaded and our deputies cannot take a chance."The court administers ID badges to lawyers so that they can pass through the City-County Building's metal detectors. As a condition of accepting the pass, lawyers are prohibited from carrying guns and knives into the court.Sheriff Frank Anderson told 6News' Jack Rinehart that the policy was under review.
