A Monroe County Sheriff's deputy who was killed when she was struck at the scene of an accident was escorted back to Bloomington on Monday.

Deputy Sarah Jones, 27, was directing traffic on State Road 45 west of Bloomington shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday night when she was struck by a Jeep driven by Bree Myers, 16, of Bloomington, said Indiana State Police Sgt. Curt Durnil.

Jones suffered multiple injuries and was transported to Bloomington Hospital and then air lifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition, Durnil said. She was pronounced dead Sunday.

Myers was transported to Bloomington Hospital but was not injured.

Durnil said that the accident was under investigation and that the Monroe County prosecutor would determine later whether charges should be filed against the young driver.

Jones was given a police escort back to Bloomington on Monday. Jones, a Michigan native, had been married about a year. She started with the department in February. She is expected to be buried in Michigan.
