INDIANAPOLIS -- Two hospital workers and a man police say was their supplier are accused of running a drug ring inside Indianapolis' Roudebush Veterans Affairs Medical Center.Douglas Wilkinson (pictured, left), 52, Ronald Northington (pictured, right), 58, -- both hospital employees -- along with Marcus Harris (pictured, middle) were arrested Tuesday and charged Wednesday in connection with the selling of heroin at the hospital, said Matthew Symons of the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.According to the probable cause affidavit, undercover investigators coordinated several controlled buys after a tip in November that drugs were being sold at the facility.
Investigators said Northington and Wilkinson bought heroin from Harris in the hospital's parking lot and then sold the drug to between 10 to 15 other employees, keeping some of the drug for themselves as payment.Investigators said that the racket had been going on since at least May.Northington was charged with two counts of dealing in a narcotic drug and two counts of possession of a narcotic drug, while Wilkinson was charged with one count of dealing in a narcotic drug and one count possession of a narcotic drug.Harris, who police say traveled to Chicago to purchase the heroin, faces four counts of dealing in a narcotic drug and two counts of possession of a narcotic drug. Investigators said that he was on home detention at the time of his arrest.Police were still trying to identify all of the hospital workers who they said purchased drugs.Northington and Wilkinson, who are both veterans, were part of a work-study program at the hospital, but no other patients were involved in the drug ring, investigators said. Hospital officials said the men were employed in the supply area of the facility."We feel very fortunate that the people that were apprehended did not have any patient contact, they did not have any access to any confidential information," said Veterans Affairs spokesman Linda Jeffrey. All three men have an initial hearing Thursday morning.
