Officer Convicted In Hispanic Driver Shakedown Sentenced
Former Westfield Officer Pleaded Guilty To Bribery

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- A former police officer has been sentenced to one year home detention after pleading guilty to taking cash from Hispanic drivers who wanted to avoid traffic tickets or jail.Former Westfield Police Lt. Scott Fross pleaded guilty to bribery in August and was sentenced Thursday.Fross was a 10-year veteran of the police force in the suburb north of Indianapolis, but resigned in November 2007 after being charged with four counts of armed robbery while on patrol.Investigators said Fross was armed and in uniform when he took money from Hispanic motorists he stopped for traffic infractions."This type of behavior is unconscionable," Hamilton County Sheriff Doug Carter said in 2007. "They should not be suscepted to anything similar to this."The sentence did not include fines or restitution.
