An 8-year-old Coatesville boy died Saturday after he became tangled in a homemade hammock, police said.

Officers were called to the home at 145 Lincoln Hills just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, said state police Sgt. Richard Myers.

Investigators said Stephen Patterson Jr. was playing with his two brothers and a friend in the basement of the home when a hammock made out of blankets became wrapped around his neck, strangling him.

The boy's parents and a neighbor performed CPR, but were not able to revive Patterson. He was transported to Hendricks County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy performed on Saturday revealed the cause of death to be strangulation.
