PLAINFIELD, Ind. -- An Indiana company is reaping the rewards of all those holiday returns and pulling in big profits from selling overstocked items, often at deep discounts.

One of Liquidation.com's largest warehouses nationwide sits in Plainfield, Ind., Call 6's Rafael Sanchez reported.

Overstocked items, returns that stores can't sell and damaged merchandise end up at the huge facility, where the goods are inspected, sorted, photographed and auctioned off online to registered buyers. Many of the items are resold to people with online businesses or who sell the merchandise on eBay or Craigslist.

"We're taking goods that would otherwise not be useful, and maybe would have gone to the landfill, and we're creating value for somebody else to take that product and run a business," said company President Cayce Roy.

Paul Septoski, who sells the products online, said his prices often rival big-name retailers on everything from electronics to clothing.

"I get a different clientele. I get clientele that's looking to save money," he said. "I sell the same as KMart, Wal-Mart and Best Buy, but I sell them at a big discount."

Larry Hughes operates HouseOf1000Boxes.com, along with a store in Greenwood. He said he's been surprised at his profits.

"I'm making money, a lot of money," he said. "I was shocked by the amount of stuff that was returned by consumers."

Some of the items sold through the Hendricks County warehouse no longer have the manufacturer's warranty, but the company said it discloses that information. Many of the home sellers, like Hughes, said they offer their own warranties to reassure buyers.

Although most of the Liquidation.com's business is aimed at bulk buyers, they do sell individual items, often for as much as 50 percent off. More information can be found on the company's Web site.
