A woman was found dead after firefighters put out a blaze at a Beech Grove apartment complex Wednesday afternoon.

Crews were called to the Beech Grove Village Apartments in the 4500 of Mimi Drive about 4:15 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from two basement units, said Beech Grove fire Captain John J. Bishop.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, but when they searched through the rubble, they found the body of Rose Frank, 69, in one of the apartments.

Investigators said Thursday that Frank died from smoke inhalation.

Five apartments sustained damage and were uninhabitable. Fire officials were searching for a cause Wednesday evening.
