SEYMOUR, Ind. -- Inmates started a large fire at a southern Indiana jail early Friday morning, doing extensive damage to the facility. The Jennings County Sheriff's Department said about 45 prisoners had to be evacuated from the county jail.Investigators said the inmates intentionally set the blaze after refusing to return to their cells and jamming a door shut."They baricaded the door shut to begin with, which makes entry for us difficult," said Major Jerry Shepherd of the Jenning County Sheriff's Department. "We go in with our team and basically take control of the cell block."The prisoners then began destroying cameras in their cell block before guards got inside to regain control. Two jail officers were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. Thirty-two prisoners were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail. The sheriff's department said investigators are trying to determine which inmates were involved in setting the fire.
