Prosecutor: Teen Found Wearing Victim's Shoe

A teenager charged in connection with a series of bus stop robberies on Indianapolis' east and northeast sides in late January said Wednesday that he was not involved in the crimes.

A not-guilty plea was entered on behalf of Cameron Johnson (pictured), 17, at an initial court appearance Wednesday morning, 6News' Julie Pursley reported.

Police believe Johnson was charged as an adult with two counts of felony robbery stemming from the Jan. 22 incidents.

Police said they believe Johnson was one of three people connected to the case, but he proclaimed innocence while on his way into court.

"No, ma'am. I was not linked to the bus stop robberies," Johnson told Pursley. "Man, I don't know what to think about it."

Victims said they were threatened at gunpoint to hand over electronics, cash and shoes.

"(Johnson) was one of the individuals involved with brandishing the weapon and was also subsequently found wearing one of the shoes of one of the victims involved," said Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi.

A 17-year-old victim who didn't want to be identified told 6News Tuesday night that his cell phone was also taken. Investigators said Johnson also robbed a girl of $2. Her mother told 6News' Jack Rinehart that she didn't understand why the students would be targeted.

"Times are hard, but to just outright go out and try and hold up little kids on a bus stop, that's an all-time low," said Tamara Jackson.

Johnson's family was in court to support him, but didn't want to talk to reporters.

"I don't know. I got nothing to say," said Tempest Garnett, Johnson's cousin, when asked if she thought he was innocent.

Police are still looking for the other two people they believe were involved.

"If these two individuals were to turn themselves in, that would be a factor that I would take into consideration in terms of how this case is resolved," Brizzi said. "But if we have to go out and spend time, money and resources and manpower to find you, and we will find you, then that will be taken into consideration as well."

Johnson was held Wednesday on $50,000 bond. A trial date was set for April 6.

Johnson said he plans to hire his own attorney. If he is convicted on both counts, Johnson could a prison sentence of up to 20 years.

Police said Johnson may have been involved in more than two robberies, adding that the investigation isn't over and more charges could come later.
