2 Inmates Suspected In Jail Fire

NORTH VERNON, Ind. -- Investigators said they think they've figured out which inmates set a fire that forced an evacuation of the Jennings County Jail two weeks ago.The Jennings County Sheriff's Department has asked the county prosecutor to file felony charges of arson and criminal mischief against two inmates.Investigators said the inmates set fire to books and clothes Jan. 29 after refusing to return to their cells following recreation time.Lesser charges are being sought against a third inmate.The fire forced the evacuation of about 40 inmates because of heavy smoke. Many of those inmates were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail.Investigators used surveillance footage to identify the inmates involved.
