A Franklin Township school bus driver accused of being drunk as he ran his route Tuesday was formally charged Thursday with two felonies and two misdemeanors in connection with the incident.

Phillip Leslie, 48, was charged with felony neglect of a dependent, felony operating a vehicle with blood-alcohol concentration above 0.15 with a minor passenger in the vehicle, criminal recklessness and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Police said Leslie was slurring and staggering when officers talked to him after he completed his route and registered a 0.22 percent blood-alcohol level.

Officers said an empty liquor bottle was found in Leslie's car in the parking lot of Franklin Township Schools' transportation center.

Leslie was found behind the wheel of the bus with his head slumped onto his chest.

Students told police that Leslie had driven on the wrong side of the road, stopped at the same houses several times and struck at least one mailbox as he drove Kitley Intermediate School students home.

Franklin Township Schools hired Leslie in 2008. School officials said they plan to fire him.
